On the heels of best-selling local author Robert Beatty's visit to A.C. Reynolds Middle School, a summer bookfair benefiting Buncombe County Schools media centers has been announced for July 7-13. The "Serafina Week" bookfair is a collaboration between Robert Beatty, author of the popular Serafina book series, and Barnes & Noble.

During these dates, any purchase at any Barnes & Noble can benefit BCS media centers. Locally, readers can say "Buncombe County Schools" at checkout, and Barnes & Noble will make a donation. (A code will be made available soon for purchases made online or at stores outside the Asheville area.)

Serafina and the Seven Stars is Robert Beatty's newest book. (Image used with Permission.)It all starts with Robert Beatty’s July 7 Launch Party for his new book, Serafina and the Seven Stars at the Asheville Mall's Barnes & Noble book store! The free 11 a.m.-4 p.m. signing party gives local readers the first opportunity to purchase Beatty's new book, meet the author, and enjoy a number of family-friendly Serafina-themed activities. Visitors will explore a planetarium, interact with living statues and a magician, enjoy music, face-painting, crafts, mask-making, and more. BCS teachers will help organize several of the activities.

On July 7, the area school with the most visitors will win a contest to host Mr. Beatty and an ice cream party provided by The Hop! Upon arrival, students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to complete contest entries on behalf of their school.

Additionally, BCS teachers are organizing additional Serafina-themed activities on July 9 and 13, including music, storytelling, crafts, nature center exhibits, an interactive green screen, and more. More details are available via the Serafina Week Facebook event announcement, and Mr. Beatty's press release (below).

Buncombe County Schools thanks Mr. Robert Beatty and Barnes & Noble for their ongoing support of literacy and our local public schools.
