Charles D. Owen High School senior Chesney Cooper Gardner has been named the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Female Athlete of the Year!

The standout, three-sport Warlassie previously was named the Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year. She is the MVP for both the basketball and volleyball teams at Owen. She has a Top 5 2A state ranking at discus throw and has her eyes on a state championship. Gardner has committed to play basketball at USC Aiken next year.

She shines on the academic field as well, earning recognition at Tuesday's TopScholar banquet.

“No matter what she does, she stands out at everything," said Owen High School Athletic Director Anthony Lee. "She’s just an amazing young woman.”

What an accomplishment! Congratulations.
