A Buncombe County Schools tour is one of the best ways for families to get all of their questions answered at once and see all their new school has to offer. It helps parents get familiar with their local community school and see the unique ways that children are encouraged and challenged each day. But the tours were not only meant for parents, they also served to give students a vision for making new friends and trying new activities!

"We had a great time meeting new families and sharing all the things we love about our school,” recalled W.D. Williams Elementary principal Ms. Carrie Lynch, who personally welcomed parents at the onset of the tour. “It also gave us the chance to talk and answer questions, in person, about enrollment, orientation and all the things leading up to that first day of kindergarten here at W.D. Williams.”

On February 21, elementary and primary schools across Asheville and Buncombe County hosted special kindergarten tours ahead of the upcoming school year. Parents and students gathered at their local schools in the morning and afternoon to see learning in action.

Schools showcased some of their favorite opportunities for students, from the character-based Leader in Me program to the popular Dual Language / Spanish Immersion classes. During the tours, visitors saw current students enjoying playgrounds, kindergarten classrooms, gymnasiums, auditoriums, STEM labs, media centers, art and music activities, and more. It was a showcase of successful public schools in action!

“The beginning of Kindergarten is always filled with excitement, and it starts well before August,” Ms. Lynch said.
