We’re proud of innovative math educators like K12 mathematics specialist Stefanie Buckner and elementary/intermediate mathematics instructional coaches Kristine Schmitt and Meg McKee.

They work collaboratively with teachers across the district to plan and implement exciting, engaging, and rigorous mathematics instruction in their classrooms.

At its annual meeting last week, the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) recognized Buckner, Schmitt, and McKee for their work as part of the NC Collaborative for Mathematics Learning (NCCML).

“For the first time, all districts have access to common, research-based instructional frameworks to guide cohesive and coherent mathematics education,” read a statement released by NCCTM, which praised NCCML for fostering collaboration across the state. The organization also celebrated the #BCS crew for their “leadership, expertise, passion, and commitment to the teachers and students of our state.”

“We are seen as leaders in the state for mathematics,” Buckner said. “We work very hard to stay on top of things, and that benefits children. They get the best and most up-to-date methods of instruction.”
