School Calendar Update A calendar waiver has been approved by the state for the 2019-2020 school year and will allow for an earlier start date- about a week earlier than in the past few years. This will allow our high schools to administer semester exams prior to the holiday break! The calendar that has been submitted to you for approval tonight includes a starting date of Monday, August the 19 and final student date of Friday, May 29, 2020.

Improving Safety Radio Coverage Over the next several weeks all 53 schools in Buncombe County and Asheville City will be hosting visits from specialists to conduct a low band radio repeater analysis of communication quality for local law enforcement, EMS, Highway Patrol. Funding was also approved to support a subsequent equipment enhancement to ensure clear communications between first responders in a potential crisis situation.

Culinary Arts Cook-Off This Saturday, November 3, between Noon and 4:00 p.m., a youth culinary competition will be held at AB Tech Community College in the Magnolia Building. Several of our high school culinary teams (T.C. Roberson, North Buncombe, and Erwin) will participate along with celebrity chef mentors from across Western North Carolina. A $10 admission will allow you to sample all the dishes and support future professional chefs!
