2019/20 Calendar Update
2019/20 Calendar Update
Posted on 10/26/2018
We want to inform you that the state has granted Buncombe County Schools a weather calendar waiver for next school year. As such, we will start the 2019/20 school year about a week earlier than previously, as well as wrap up the year earlier. The BCS Calendar Committee is finalizing a recommendation for the Board of Education. The new calendar will likely be considered at the November/December board meeting.

*Please note that due to state law we cannot start the school year earlier than the Monday closest to August 26, unless a weather-related waiver has been approved, then the start date can be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 19.

We also want to update you on how you can receive weather and emergency notifications this winter in a timely fashion.

We have transitioned to a new method of updating important medical and contact information for your child. To ensure that your correct phone number will receive notifications, please update your contact information through the PowerSchool Parent Portal using these instructions.

In the event of an emergency or weather event, notifications will be sent via phone message, text, email, local media outlets, and posted on our district website: buncombeschools.org.Please follow our district social media channels.

We're @buncombeschools on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.

Our mobile app is another fast way to receive emergency and weather-related notifications. Simply download our official Buncombe County Schools app for Apple or Android devices, and enable "push notifications."
