An Erwin High School senior holds up a UNC-Greensboro poster at a senior signing event on Friday, May 18, 2018. Clyde A. Erwin High School seniors celebrated the dream of college on Friday with the whole student body.

At a school assembly in the gymnasium, college-bound seniors signed their names on a banner and posed for photos with balloons that matched the colors of the schools they will attend this fall. Those schools include A-B Tech, UNC-Asheville, Western Carolina, Appalachian State, UNC-Chapel Hill – even Brown University.

“This event is a great way to celebrate our seniors and remind younger students that they can do whatever they want if they apply themselves,” said Principal Gregory Bailey. “College is not the only choice, but it’s a great way to advance. You can follow your parents before you, or, like me, you can be the first in your family to get a four-year degree.”
