Clif Dodson of Cane Creek MiddleClif Dodson doesn’t like to “toot his own horn,” but the Cane Creek Middle School band director received a special honor earlier this week.

Dodson, now in his 16th year teaching band at Cane Creek, received the Award of Excellence for the Western District of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. The award recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions to public school bands.

“Through professional leadership, you have inspired and motivated excellence in instrumental music performance,” the award reads. “Your record of service to our profession is one your colleagues see and admire as well as serve as a model to others.”

He thanked the community and faculty of the Glen Arden and Fairview Elementary Schools for helping to build the band program at Cane Creek.

“I hope it is one that they can be proud of and serve as an inspiration other programs throughout the state,” he said. “Maybe people will try to model some of the things that we do.”
