Superintendent's Comments

Dr. Tony Baldwin commented on a variety of topics concerning Buncombe County Schools and its students, faculty, staff, and the communities served by the system. These remarks included:

Work Session Success
I want to begin by recognizing several key staff members who participated in this afternoon's Capital and Operating Budget work session. First, thank you to the capital outlay committee composed of representative principals and key district leadership, including Mr. Joe Hough, Mr. Tim Fierle, Mrs. Mary Beth Kingston, and Mr. Clark Wyatt. Also, our new capital outlay facilitator, Amanda Buckner, did an excellent job!

    • Safety First
Safety preparedness is among the highest priorities in our schools. Last week, Johnston Elementary School participated in a full-scale evacuation and parent reunification drill. I want to recognize Joe Hough’s leadership in planning and facilitating an extremely successful training session! All components of the NIMS (National Incident Management System) were activated and present for the drill.

    • Thanks to Teachers!
We still have one day left in national Teacher Appreciation Week! Please take some time to say “Thank you” to the educators in your life.

    • Special Olympics
I want to thank Susanne Swanger, who represented us at the County Wide Special Olympics held today at Roberson High School – it’s always an inspirational and wonderful event!
