Superintendent's Comments

Dr. Tony Baldwin commented on a variety of topics concerning Buncombe County Schools and its students, faculty, staff, and the communities served by the system. These remarks included:

  • First Winter Storm Earlier this week, we had our first winter weather impact on school attendance as we lost Monday and Tuesday. I do want to take the opportunity to recognize the dedicated efforts of our Maintenance Department and Director Clark Wyatt for their hard work clearing our campuses of snow and ice.
  • Testing on Track We are still on schedule to complete End-of-Course Testing in our Middle Schools and High Schools on January 23rd and 24th. The first day of second semester begins on the 26th.
  • AdvancEd Preparation Continues While we are in the process of implementing a number of important programs and activities, preparing for the AdvancED district visit in March is receiving lots of attention. In fact, we will be providing the Board with a work session on February 2nd to focus on this reaccreditation process.
  • New Promotional Billboards This week, eight new promotional billboards for Buncombe County Schools will be on display across all 6 of our districts!  The billboard features four 2016 T.C. Roberson graduates. The image conveys our mission is to help all of our students realize their full potential and be prepared for a 21st-century career.
  • Special Recognition We have two very special guests in attendance this evening: former Chairman of our Buncombe County Commissioners Mr. David Gantt and Commissioner Holly Jones. We’ve produced a special video to show our appreciation to all the Commissioners for their ongoing support and dedication to public education!
