A baking battle ensued on April 29 at T.C. Roberson High School (TCRHS) during Cupcake Wars! The Cupcake Wars entered it’s second and final round, bringing BCS middle school students together to clash over colorful frosting, moist cakes, and fantastical displays. North Buncombe Middle, Enka Middle, Cane Creek Middle, and Owen Middle all participated in the bake-off.
“This was a great opportunity for students to visit a high school and use their culinary skills in a commercial high school lab,” said Middle School CTE director Michele Smith.
Each team of students had a High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student as a mentor while in the lab. The lucky judges, who ranked the cupcakes on criteria of looks, taste, and display, were Autumn Bishop, Assistant Principal at TCRH, Tara from the Baked Pie Company, and Logan Davis, the VP of the NC State FCCLA.
Students worked hard on creative displays of their delicious and colorful cupcakes. Each student received a "Cupcake Wars" apron and a mixing bowl full of goodies. North Buncombe Middle took home first place, receiving medals and a Cupcake Wars trophy for their Enchanted Forest display.
