Students at WD Williams Elementary are going where the buffalo roam, kind of. Second grade teachers Mrs. Sarah Sebol and Ms. Chloe Bankson brought the text alive by making a life-size version of a buffalo.

This is part of the literacy program “Wit & Wisdom.” The class is reading “The Buffalo are Back.” Along with literacy, Mrs. Sebol also integrates math in this lesson plan. Each child gave their best guess on the height of the buffalo. To their surprise it turned out to be larger than most expected. The buffalo stands approximately 7 feet tall and is located outside the classroom for all to see.

Sebol said, “We are exploring the West and reading books about the land, people, and animals that are part of its history! The Buffalo are just one piece of our unit.”

This group of second graders are moving forward with this week's expedition into the wild wild west as more learning and adventures await.
