BCS Graduation Rate Up for Sixth Consecutive Year

September 1, 2016

(ASHEVILLE)- Buncombe County Schools (BCS) had 100-percent of its schools earn grades of C or better on today’s release of 2016 READY Accountability results, which includes North Carolina’s third annual release of school performance grades. This percentage compares to the state average of 77.1-percent for traditional public schools, and 72.2-percent for public charter schools.

For the sixth consecutive year, the BCS four-year cohort high school graduation rate has increased. This year, BCS has an 85.7-percent graduation rate- an increase over 85.1-percent in 2015 and 83.2-percent in 2014.

“Last year I said we were heading in the right direction in applying instructional strategies to help make every student successful. These data results are a clear indicator that the cooperative work of our parents, teachers, administrators, and staff are paying off in the lives of our remarkable students,” said BCS Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin. “While this report allows us to measure how well our students are achieving, it also serves as a useful indicator in evaluating how successfully we- as a school system- are meeting the expectations we have for ourselves.”
