Cold and flu season is here! The Buncombe Co. Health Department and our school nurses want to pass along some important information to our parents and the community. - There is a pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak in a neighboring county. The health department is asking the community to be alert for symptoms such as a runny nose, watery eyes, coughing fits and possible “whoop” sound when taking a breath. You're advised to stay home and notify your health care provider if symptoms occur. - If your child develops symptoms of pertussis (whooping cough), keep them out of school, sports or playgroups and contact your child’s health care provider as soon as possible. - Pertussis (whooping cough) spreads easily and is dangerous, especially to infants & young children. Tdap vaccine protects against Pertussis. Also, it's not too late to get your flu shot as well! You can get immunizations from your doctor or the Buncombe County Health And Human Services Immunization Clinic.
